Morgan Stover

West Greene Lions Club recently recognized three West Greene High School students as outstanding students. They are Sommer Howard, Morgan Stover and Justin Gilbert.

Howard is the daughter of Rebecca and Johnathan Murphy of New Freeport. She is vice president of the Class of 2016 and treasurer of National Honor Society.

Howard is a member of Spanish Club and student government and was a prom court attendant. She is a volunteer at Mt. Zion Baptist Church and at Hundred, W.Va., Public Library.

Howard plans to attend Waynesburg University and become a nurse.

Stover is the daughter of Jeff and Sheila Stover of Rogersville.

She is president of both the Class of 2016 and National Honor Society. She is a member of the art club and Young Life and has been an officer of the student government association for one year.

Stover received a citizenship award for two years and participated in academic league for four years.

She also participated in mock trial for one year and for three years was team captain for the aspiring architects’ competition. Her team won awards for best presentation, best model, best overall project and best landscape.

Stover was homecoming court attendant and prom court attendant last year and was a statistician for the softball team for four years.

She was a Girl Scout for 12 years and earned bronze, silver and gold awards. At Rogersville United Methodist Church, she was a Sunday school teacher and vacation Bible school coordinator for four years and youth representative for the pastor parish relations committee for two years.

Stover has served as a tutor at Bowlby Public Library and volunteered at a Petsmart adoption clinic through Catnip Acres.

Stover plans to attend Pierpont Community and Technical College for baking and pastry arts.

Gilbert is the son of Lori and Robert Gilbert of Graysville.

He has been a member of the National Honor Society for the last two years and in ninth grade was president of SADD and a member of the Drama Club.

Gilbert has been a member of the jazz, marching and concert bands since seventh grade.

He participated in mock trail from ninth through eleventh grades and was best advocate and best in county for three consecutive years.

He also participated in the aspiring architects’ competition and his team received awards for best model, best presentation and best overall.

Gilbert has served as a tutor since seventh grade and volunteered packing backpacks in the backpack program since ninth grade.

He plans to attend California University of Pennsylvania’s Commercial Music Technology Program and be a recording engineer and music producer.
