WAYENSBURG – Greene County’s pension plan stayed in good shape despite volatility in the financial markets last year, county Controller Dave Balint reported Thursday.

During the retirement board meeting Thursday morning, Balint said the county’s retirement plan was overfunded, at 102 percent, at the end of the year.

The status of the plan at the end of the year also doesn’t reflect the more recent upturn in the market this year, he said.

Commissioner Blair Zimmerman called management of the plan “outstanding.”

The retirement board consists of three county commissioners, Zimmerman, Dave Coder and Archie Trader, Balint and Treasurer Cory Grandel.

Before the retirement board meeting, Greene County commissioners held their voting meeting and approved several motions discussed at Wednesday’s agenda meeting.

The board awarded a contract to repair the front porch at the courthouse, where the stone slabs have become uneven, to the Jesse Fiske LLC, which presented a low quote of $19,400.

The county has had problems with the stone slabs, which become uneven with the winter freeze and thaw cycle, Chief Clerk Jeffrey Marshall said. This past winter, barricades were used to block access to the porch on either side of the main courthouse entrance because the stones become so bad. The work is expected to be completed this summer.

The commissioners approved a supplemental agreement with Pennoni Associates Inc. to complete engineering and design work for a segment of the access road and a new parking lot at the county airport. The work is part of the plan to open up airport property fronting Route 21 to commercial development. Pennoni will be paid $69,500 for the work.

The commissioners approved a proposal from Widmer Engineering to complete design work for the replacement of a small county bridge over Hart’s Run in Aleppo Township. The bridge, County Bridge No. 102, will be replaced by the county using liquid fuels money.
