Waynesburg man sentenced on sex charges
WAYNESBURG – A former Waynesburg man who was accused of fondling a 12-year-old girl and who pleaded no contest to the charges in December was sentenced to the county intermediate punishment program Thursday by Greene County President Judge Farley Toothman.
Adam D. Courtwright, 44, of 165 Martin Road, Wind Ridge, pleaded no contest Dec. 15 to three counts each of indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of a minor. By pleading no contest, Courtwright denies guilt but admits facts stated in the indictment.
As part of a plea agreement, Courtwright was sentenced to five years in the county intermediate punishment program, the first year of which will be served under house arrest with a GPS and alcohol monitoring bracelet. He was determined eligible for work release and must pay a $1,500 fine
Police said Courtwright fondled the girl at his home in September 2012 by putting his hand down the girl’s shirt and pants. The girl’s mother informed investigators after the last incident.
Police interviewed Courtwright and he admitted to rubbing the girl’s back, legs and buttocks. However, he declined to give a written statement, police said.
Police interviewed the girl the following month and she told them Courtwright fondled her at his house. At the time, however, the girl said she was “not ready to follow through with the charges” and as a result no charges were filed then.
The girl and her mother returned to police in March to discuss the incidents. Investigators did not say what prompted the girl to return this year to be interviewed again regarding the matter.
