Humane Society honored by police
The Waynesburg Borough Police Department presented a commendation Monday morning to Humane Society of Greene County for its work over many years assisting police officers on calls involving animals.
Police Chief Rob Toth and Waynesburg Mayor Duncan Berryman presented the plaque with a department badge to Humane Society Director Jane Gapen, along with volunteers Connie McNeely and Vicki Duvall, to thank them for their service.
Gapen, who is also a humane society police officer, helped borough police on calls for more than 20 years, Toth said.
“The victims in her cases can’t talk,” Toth said. “She’s easily Greene County’s dog whisperer.”
Gapen also announced the humane society is continuing to waive the adoption fees for cats after receiving numerous stray kittens in recent weeks. More than 50 cats were adopted in less than two weeks since the shelter began waiving the adoption fee.
