Body of W.Va. teen found
CALDWELL, W.Va. – A search team in West Virginia recovered the body of a teen who was missing since flooding in June swept her away.
State police Sgt. Drew Pendleton told news outlets the West Virginia state medical examiner’s office identified the body as that of 14-year-old Mykala Phillips. She was missing and presumed dead since June 23, when a flood swept her away from her family.
The body was found Tuesday afternoon in Greenbrier County. Sheriff Jan Cahill said a bloodhound led searchers to the site where the body was unearthed, about 6 miles from the girl’s home.
A total of 23 people died as a result of floods statewide that day, including 15 in Greenbrier County. Phillips was the last missing victim.
