Separate domestic incidents lead to arrests
State police arrested two men within about two hours Monday after being called to separate domestic incidents that allegedly involved guns.
David Bruce Crompton, 61, was arrested on a charge of terroristic threats after police were called to his home at 181 Mounts Road, South Franklin Township, about 6:45 p.m. Jacob Alan Colvin, 26, was arrested on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment after police responded to his home at 414 Narigon Run Road, Independence Township, about 9 p.m.
A trooper was on his way to the call at Crompton’s residence when he was advised the 61-year-old was heavily intoxicated and had a gun. Troopers arrived and surrounded the house, attempting to make contact with Crompton, who was still inside the residence. Crompton then left the house with his hands in the air and was taken into custody.
Crompton’s girlfriend told police he became intoxicated and was irate over an argument the two had a few days earlier. She called her son Monday night to pick her up. When he learned her son was coming, Crompton allegedly retrieved a shotgun, loaded it and, while holding the gun, told her if her son was “coming to kill me, then I am going to kill him.”
When she told Crompton her son was not coming to kill him, he reportedly put the shotgun down on the kitchen table, police said. She told police she left the home with the shotgun, so Crompton would not hurt himself or anyone else.
Troopers were summoned to Colvin’s house after his father called 911 to report his son had a gun. When police arrived, Colvin’s mother said her son lives in the basement of their home. She told police they got into an argument with their son Monday night.
During the argument, Colvin allegedly said, “I’m going to protect myself.” His mother told police she ran out of the house in fear of her safety. Colvin’s father told police he thought he heard his son loading a gun in the basement. Colvin allegedly came up the stairs, telling his father to get in the closet or “I’ll shoot you.” Colvin allegedly pointed a long gun at his parents as they were fleeing.
Colvin denied pointing the gun at his parents but reportedly told police he came up the stairs with a long gun. He also denied planning to shoot them but said he wanted to protect himself because he thought he heard his mother tell his father to shoot him, according to police.
Crompton and Colvin were arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis. Crompton was released from Washington County jail Tuesday morning after posting $5,000 bond. Colvin was placed in jail on $25,000 bond. Both men have preliminary hearings scheduled for Aug. 30 before District Judge Ethan Ward.
