A Claysville woman faces three sets of criminal charges filed against her by Donegal Township police stemming from three incidents over a two-day period last week.

Barbara Hines, 56, of 114 Petroleum Ave., was initially stopped about 9:45 p.m., Aug. 11, by police who spotted her driving without headlights near the intersection of Main and Mill streets. The officer initiated a traffic stop but said she did not pull over until reaching her home.

Police said her passenger, Robert E. Bennett, 57, also of 114 Petroleum, was found with two stamp bags of heroin and 13 Suboxone packages in his wallet. Police asked for permission to search their home. The two reportedly agreed, and police said they found a stamp bag of heroin, 20 empty stamp bags and syringes.

Police charged Hines with possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license. Bennett was charged with possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.

Just before 3 a.m. the following day, police received a call about the driver of a vehicle in the 2000 block of Beham Ridge Road using a car horn. Police said they found the car at 104 Main St., Claysville. The driver, later identified by police as Hines, was gone. The car went through a yard and into a bush.

Hines was soon spotted waking along Main with a gasoline can. She told police she ran out of gas.

Police charged her with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, leaving the scene of an accident, driving under suspension and criminal mischief.

About 8:40 p.m. that day, police said she was found with suspected heroin and syringes during a traffic stop on Route 40 at Timberlake Road.

Hines, who was a passenger in that vehicle, apparently did not realize she was talking with a township police officer when she reportedly offered to get him some heroin, police said. She was charged with possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.

The charges were sent by summons from the office of District Judge Ethan Ward. The two are scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Ward Sept. 13.
