How has your week been? Hopefully, you’ve dried out from the incredibly rainy weather earlier in the week. But if you haven’t had a chance to read all the latest local news, we have compiled five of the most-read stories of the week here to catch you up on what’s been happening.

Construction has been busy on Route 19, and we don’t just mean the diverging diamond interchange with Interstate 79. Many new businesses are being constructed throughout a four-mile stretch of North and South Strabane townships. Some of the projects include a new Dunkin’ Donuts at The Street of the Meadows project, a strip shopping center at the former Sharp’s Furniture location and 10,000-square-foot building at the Old Mill.

A Monessen man was jailed on charges he severely injured the owner of a dairy bar and assaulted two others Thursday.

City police arrested William Kevin Huweart Jr., 29, of 1302 Rostraver St. on charges of simple assault, harassment and public drunkenness in connection with the assaults in Libby’s Dairy Bar, court records show. Huweart was sent to Westmoreland County jail on $10,000 bail.

The owner of the dairy bar, Joseph Malone, will likely need cosmetic surgery on his lips from the assault, police said.

Police were called to the store at 8:15 p.m. Thursday as Huweart was running out of the business after he allegedly punched Joseph Maione in the face, knocking the business owner to the floor, according to the affidavit supporting criminal charges.

Washington Crown Center was sold to a New York-based mall operator for $20 million.

The finalization of the sale was announced Tuesday by Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust, which sold the 676,000-square-foot North Franklin Township retail center to Kohan Retail Investment Group, based in Great Neck, N.Y.

According to KRIG’s website, it specializes in purchasing and turning around distressed shopping malls around the country, but principal Mike Kohan stressed in a telephone interview Tuesday that Washington Crown Center does not fit into that category.

A Donora man is in custody on charges he attempted to kill a woman in Charleroi early Wednesday by striking her in the head with a chest freezer and dehumidifier.

Charleroi Regional police lodged Newton overnight in Washington County jail on a probation violation following the 2:50 a.m. assault of Raven Randall on her birthday at 1022 Fallowfield Ave., court records show. Police said Randall, 24, was unresponsive, had a faint pulse and lost a lot of blood by the time officers and paramedics arrived at her residence.

According to court records, the victim’s sister told police Newton picked up the freezer and struck Raven Randall with it after she refused to give him a cigarette, the record alleged.

Trinity High School students who drive to school are facing a more than 560 percent increase in their on-campus parking fee.

The school district raised the student parking fee from $35 to $200 for the 2016-17 academic year to help cover expenses for parking lot improvements. As of Tuesday afternoon, 436 people signed an online petition launched by a student asking the school district to reduce the price to $60.
