Man, woman struck, killed by train in Pennsylvania
AMBRIDGE, Pa. (AP) — Authorities in western Pennsylvania say a man and woman were struck and killed by a train while trying to cross the tracks.
Officials in Beaver County said the two were hit by an Amtrak passenger train near the sewage treatment plant in Ambridge at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
Police chief James Mann said the two came from the Ohio River side of the tracks and tried to cross but went in front of the train and were struck.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene. They have not yet been identified. The accident didn’t happen at a crossing.
The train was heading from Washington, D.C., to Chicago carrying 215 passengers. It was stopped for two hours. Mann said Amtrak police are handling the investigation.
