Area man faces rape charges
CARMICHAELS – A Crucible man was charged this week with rape after state police said he sexually assaulted two girls in separate cases, one of which dates back to 2000.
Leonard L. Glendenning, 49, of 431 E. Fifth Ave., was arrested Tuesday and accused of raping the two girls inside his home, one in 2000 when she was 13 and the other girl on at least four occasions over several years, beginning in 2010 when she was just 10, police said.
Police said they were notified Aug. 16 after receiving an anonymous tip from ChildLine through Children and Youth Services and began investigating the matter.
Investigators spoke to the accuser, now an adult, who told them during an interview Aug. 23 that she was raped in the summer of 2000 when she was 13, and that sexual abuse occurred several other times, police said. She told police she was concerned another girl faced similar abuse “exactly what happened to her” years later, court documents indicate.
That same day, police interviewed the other girl, who told them she had been molested and raped on multiple occasions between 2010 and 2014 as she was entering her teen years.
Police wrote in court documents that the girl “made herself forget about the incidents” until recently.
Glendenning faces three counts each of rape, statutory sex assault and indecent assault, four counts of aggravated indecent assault, two counts of child endangerment and one charge of corruption of minors.
He was arraigned Tuesday afternoon by District Judge Lee Watson and is being held at the Greene County jail on $50,000 bond.
Glendenning’s preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 8 at 1:15 p.m. before Watson. No defense attorney lawyer was listed for Glendenning as of Wednesday morning.
