Local man sentenced for selling heroin after plea
WAYNESBURG – A Carmichaels man who pleaded guilty to selling heroin to a confidential informant in Cumberland Township two years ago was sentenced Wednesday to two years in the state intermediate punishment program.
Joseph James Dean II, 27, of 254 Haines Road, pleaded guilty in October to possession of a controlled substance, delivery of a controlled substance and use of a communications facility.
Dean was arrested after selling 11 stamp bags of heroin for $135 to a confidential informant working with the Cumberland Township police Aug. 24, 2014.
He was sentenced Wednesday by Greene County President Judge Farley Toothman to two years in the state program, which includes a minimum of seven months in prison and participation in institutional and community-based drug and alcohol programs.
Dean was also sentence to a consecutive 18 months of probation. He was given credit for time served in jail or prison from March 9 to May 11, 2015; and from Dec. 10, 2015 to Aug. 31. He was fined $500.
