Police beat Sept. 1
Crash reported: Josef Micah Kurincak, 35, of 209 Bliss Ave., Nemacolin, was charged by Cumberland Township police with fleeing the scene of an accident and driving under the influence of alcohol for a crash April 9 at Liveasy Road and S. Eighty-Eight Road. Police said Kurincak was driving a pickup truck when he crashed into the back of a sedan, driven by Joseph F. John II, who was transported to a hospital for treatment. Police said witnesses reported seeing Kurincak leave the scene on foot. Police found him “staggering and nearly losing his balance” in the road with injuries to his face and forearms, according to the criminal complaint. Police said they also found several bottles of methadone prescribed to Kurincak and a flask with alcohol inside his truck. Police said Kurincak’s blood-alcohol content was 0.233, nearly three times the legal limit to drive a vehicle, and there were also traces of methadone in his blood. Kurincak was also cited with four other traffic violations.
Drug charges filed: Steven Edward Hawk, 22, of 324 Monongahela Ave., Westover, W.Va., was charged by Cumberland Township police with three counts of prohibited acts for allegedly possessing three syringes used for ingesting Subutex, according to the criminal complaint. Police said they were searching Hawk’s car during a traffic stop about 9:15 p.m. Aug. 22, on S. Eighty-Eight Road in the township when they found the drug paraphernalia. During the stop, Hawk’s passenger, Jesse Jeffries, 19, of the same address, allegedly gave police a false name, the complaint said. Jeffries was charged with false identification.
Resisting arrest: Police said they charged Gary Lee Breakiron, 49, of 628 Second St., Fairbank, with resisting arrest and DUI following an incident at 2 a.m. Aug. 27 on 482 Stringtown Road in the township. Police said Breakiron drove his vehicle off the road and into a field before backing it onto the street again and into a driveway. Police said Breakiron then got out of his vehicle and ran from police. Two other police departments assisted in searching for Breakiron, who was found hiding in the brush along the woodline of a house, police said. Breakiron’s blood-alcohol content was 0.194, more than double the legal amount to drive, according to the criminal complaint.
Assault: Joshua Franklin Davis, 29, of 200 Kuran Road, Carmichaels, who is an inmate at Greene County jail, was charged by state police with assault and aggravated harassment for allegedly assaulting a corrections officer Aug. 21. Davis allegedly got into a verbal argument with officer Ryan Kmetz after Davis was denied a shower, according to the criminal complaint. Davis allegedly spit on the Kmetz’s face, tried to grab him and threatened to beat him up, police said. The incident was recorded on surveillance cameras, but according to the criminal complaint, Davis told police he didn’t remember the interaction with Kmetz.
Theft: State police said someone broke the window of an excavator parked on Blanch Street in Jefferson Township and stole a 36 piece socket set from inside the construction vehicle, between Aug. 24 and 26.
Theft: State police said 16 vehicle batteries were stolen early Monday morning from four commercial trucks parked in a lot on Route 19 in Mt. Morris.
