Canon-McMillan school board meeting recap

• Cypher & Cypher presented its audit report to the board for the year ending June 30, 2016. There were no findings of fault.

• The board accepted a $2,000 donation from Beech Construction that is earmarked for the Muse Elementary Building opening ceremony. The school is scheduled to open in August.

• The board accepted a $525 STEM grant for the high school.

• The board approved Weiss, Burkhardt and Kramer to represent the district on tax appeals when Peacock Keller & Ecker has a conflict of interest.

• The board voted to settle the tax appeal with Meadowland Park Hotel, doing business as the Comfort Inn. They agreed to a tax-year market value of $5 million in 2013 and $4 million in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

• The board accepted the resignation of school board member Joseph Zupancic, who has been on the board for nine years. His resignation will be effective Jan. 1. The board will have 30 days to fill the vacancy.

Next meeting: Jan. 5 at 6 p.m. in the administration building.
