Monessen school board selects Fantauzzi as president
On Tuesday, Monessen School Board voted 8-1 to name Donna Fantauzzi as board president. Fantauzzi is going into her 10th year on the school board, and this is her third term as president, having served two terms prior to Lee Johnson’s time in the post.
Fantauzzi said she wants to continue to help the Monessen district move forward. She said she plans to focus on improving district students’ test scores.
The board voted unanimously to re-elect Roberta Bergstedt as board vice president. Fantauzzi said she has worked with Bergstedt in the past and is excited for them to be a team again.
Dr. Leanne Spazak, district superintendent, thanked former board president Johnson for his dedication to the district and to the students. “He has a great vision for us,” Spazak said.
The board also approved a software contract and software license agreement with Transfinder. Jeff Festor, business manager, said this transportation-routing software will allow the district to draft bus routes and also will provide GPS tracking and recording of mileage.
He said the district already tracks data such as the bus routes and mileage, so this software will be used mainly to double-check the measures already have in place to help ensure accuracy in the transportation information the district provides to the state each year.
Gina Naccarato, athletic director and elementary school assistant principal, announced that the boy’s varsity basketball team has been selected to participate in the C.J. Betters tournament. She said they nominated two players, one of whom will have a chance to win a $5,000 scholarship at the tournament.
The C.J. Betters RBA Holiday Classic will be held Dec. 29 and Dec. 30, at the Golden Dome on the campus of Community College of Beaver County in Monaca.
Spazak issued a reminder that the district will be holding its first Targeting Excellence Academically Monessen, or TEAM, advisory meeting at 6 p.m. Dec. 14 in high school large-group instruction room. This meeting is open to the public and will serve as a place where parents and community members can discuss issues and form solutions.
