PITTSBURGH (AP) – Authorities in Western Pennsylvania say a woman whose body was found in a Pittsburgh street was killed by a shotgun wound to the head.

The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said Saturday that the death of 27-year-old Michelle Mercuri had been ruled a homicide.

Officers were sent to the South Side Slopes neighborhood at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday after a report of a possible robbery. Police said the call was updated that there could be a female hostage.

Public safety officials said arriving officers found the woman lying in the street with a head wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

SWAT team officers were called to clear the structure and determined that there was no hostage situation. Pittsburgh police are investigating and didn’t immediately announce any arrests.
