South Fayette approves budget
South Fayette commissioners approved the township’s 2017 budget with no tax increase during their Dec. 14 meeting.
South Fayette’s millage rate will remain at 4.48 for 2017 with an operating budget of $10.8 million.
The draft budget originally included a small tax increase, but that was removed after the township eliminated two proposed administrative positions and the addition of one full-time police officer position, which will now be filled with part-time officers.
The draft budget revision also included an additional $5,000 to be given to the library.
Robert Milacci, who addressed the board regarding library funding at the first budget presentation in November, was reappointed as President of the Library Board at the meeting.
The Board of Commissioners considered applicants to vacant board positions, approving Milacci and Cynthia Fuselier to the library board.
Robert Price was appointed to the civil service commission. Jack Ramage and Beverly Herndon were appointed to the planning commission. Mark Sipos and Terry Kuhn will be joining the board of standards.
The zoning hearing board will receive the services of Joe Gagliardino and former commissioner Deron Gabriel, with one alternate position still available.
Six people applied for five available positions on the parks and recreation board. Ron Miller, Carl Helbling, Deb Whitewood, Rebecca Sray and Timothy Mantick were all appointed, with Venkatesh Coonamamani appointed as an alternate.
Interest in that board heightened last month after the commissioners decided to require all dogs to be on a leash in Fairview Park.
The board also approved a resolution to enter a new four-year labor contract with the police union.
