Fort Cherry to be on lockdown Monday
Fort Cherry School District will be on lockdown Monday following the discovery of a threat found on a bathroom wall.
An email to district families from Superintendent Dr. Jill Jacoby states the threat, which specified a safety hazard for Monday, was discovered Friday in the junior/senior high school.
State and local police officers will be on campus Monday, and schools will be on lockdown. Medal detectors will be placed at entrances.
Students are not permitted to bring bookbags Monday and are asked to carry their items. Lunch boxes and purses will be permitted and will be searched.
According to Jacoby, surveillance is being monitored through the weekend and into the school day Monday. Those attending high school sporting events over the weekend are being asked to enter through the gym entrance. Saturday detention was canceled.
Mt. Pleasant and state police declined to comment. No one at the district could be reached for further information.
Two other Washington County schools similarly discovered threats last week.
McGuffey students were dismissed early Dec. 8 after a written threat was found in a restroom in the middle/high school. Police swept the building, and no weapons were found.
The same day at Charleroi Middle School, a “hit list” with student names was found in a hallway, prompting the district to increase security. Charleroi Regional police are involved in the discipline of two students responsible for creating the list.
