Route 19/21 near Waynesburg to close nightly for bridge construction
WAYNESBURG – Route 19/21 in Morrisville will be closed to traffic beginning tonight as construction workers erect beams for the second railroad overpass, the state Department of Transportation announced.
The work will continue despite flooding that occurred at the bridge construction site Sunday morning, PennDOT spokeswoman Valerie Petersen said Monday.
The road will be closed at the bridge from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and again next week, from Tuesday through Friday, PennDOT said.
The detour will divert traffic to Interstate 79 and Route 19, between Ruff Creek and Waynesburg. Route 21 will be closed to westbound truck traffic at the I-79 and closed to eastbound truck traffic at Route 19 north.
PennDOT is replacing the former railroad overpass and adjacent bridge, carrying traffic over Ten Mile Creek, with four-lane structures.
Gulisek Construction LLC, the contractor on the $15.1 million project, earlier completed construction of half of the new bridge for motorists and one of two of the new railroad overpasses.
The company is currently building the second railroad overpass along the original track alignment. It also has begun work on the second half of the bridge.
The project began in late 2013 and is scheduled to be completed in the fall.
