Man killed in ‘domestic disturbance’
CLARKSVILLE – A Cumberland Township man was shot to death at a Clarksville home during a domestic dispute Thursday afternoon.
Christopher M. Griedel was shot and killed about 12:30 p.m. during a fight “with family members” at his family’s home at 120 North St., according to the Greene County coroner’s office.
It was not immediately known what prompted the fight or who shot Griedel.
State police Sgt. Steve Dowlin said troopers were called to the home for a “domestic disturbance,” but he declined to release any other details of the killing. However, he said there was no danger to the public.
“We believe all parties involved are currently secured and that there is no current threat to the public,” Dowlin said.
Troopers executed a search warrant at the home and Greene County District Attorney Marjorie Fox visited the scene, although she could not be reached for comment.
Two local pastors could be seen consoling Griedel’s family members Thursday afternoon and praying with them outside the Clarksville home.
Griedel, 30, of 311 S. Pine St., Carmichaels, was arrested earlier this month and taken to WHS-Greene hospital for a mental-health evaluation following a fight with family members at his Cumberland Township residence.
Cumberland police were called to Griedel’s residence Dec. 3 for an argument with his family before he punched and bit one officer and grabbed another officer’s uniform while in the patrol car, according to court documents. He was facing charges of aggravated assault, escape and terroristic threats among others, although he had not been arraigned.
It was not known why he hadn’t been arraigned on the pending charges after his release from WHS-Greene hospital.
