Recycling pickups shifted to Mondays

Effective with the new year, curbside recycling collection in the city of Washington will occur every other Monday. Republic Services will collect recyclables Jan. 2, 16 and 30; Feb. 13 and 27; March 13 and 27; April 10 and 24; May 8 and 22; June 5 and 19; July 3, 17 and 31; Aug. 14 and 28; Sept. 11 and 25; Oct. 9 and 23; Nov. 6 and 20; and Dec. 4 and 18.

Recycling bins should be placed at the curb no later than 6 a.m. and removed within 24 hours of collection.

Accepted items include clean paper, cardboard and newsprint; rigid plastic food and beverage containers numbered 1 to 7; glass food and beverage containers; steel, aluminum and bi-metal food and beverage containers; and gable-top milk, gravy and soup cartons.

Items not accepted include light bulbs, mirrors, window glass, ceramics, containers with food and liquid residue, pizza boxes, wet paper products, garden hoses and all other metals.
