A Cross Creek Township man was treated for smoke inhalation after his house caught fire Monday night.

Smith Township police Officer Larry Bonazza said Frank Dolinar, 92, was taken to Washington Hospital following the fire, which damaged a wall at 173 Vance Drive.

Dolinar and his wife, Mary, were watching television inside the home when they heard a popping noise and the fire broke out, Bonazza said.

Firefighters from Slovan, Avella, Mt Pleasant Township and Jefferson Township fire departments responded to the blaze, which broke out about 6:30 p.m. The couple’s grandson, John Wasik, who lives nearby, drove to the property and nearly extinguished the fire before firefighters arrived.

Smith Township police were assisted by state police in Washington, and Dolinar was transported by Washington Ambulance and Chair with suspected smoke inhalation.

The house suffered minimal damage, which likely was caused by an electrical problem.

Information on Dolinar’s condition was not available Monday night.
