ALLENTOWN (AP) – An eastern Pennsylvania detective investigating the death of a woman found in a recycling bin was injured in a shootout as he tried to serve a warrant in the case.

Allentown Police Chief Keith Morris says officers were approaching an apartment’s door Tuesday night when they were met with gunfire. He says officers returned fire.

He says the gunman barricaded himself inside before police stormed the home and took him into custody early Wednesday. No charges were announced.

The detective was shot in the left arm. He was treated at a hospital and released. The suspect was hospitalized but his condition wasn’t released. Neither was identified.

The apartment is near where the woman’s body was found Sunday in a large blue recycling container.

Authorities say she died of multiple gunshot wounds.
