Report offers 184 suggestions on growing natural gas network
HARRISBURG (AP) – A state task force created to figure out how Pennsylvania should grow its network of natural gas pipelines has come up with 184 recommendations.
A final report filed Thursday suggests educating property owners on pipeline development issues, using construction methods that lessen the impact on the environment and implementing safety plans. Other recommendations include attracting military veterans and streamlining the permit process.
State regulators say they’ll determine if the suggestions are viable.
The state’s natural gas industry has boomed due to the presence of Marcellus Shale, a sedimentary rock that has natural gas deposits.
The Public Utility Commission and the Pennsylvania Energy Infrastructure Alliance have praised the report.
Industry groups and companies in the task force say some recommendations would require new laws or conflict with existing regulations.
