A Canonsburg man will spend the next five to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of a firearm offense stemming from a May 2013 incident outside a Washington bar.

Washington County Judge John F. DiSalle on Thursday imposed the sentence on Zaie Escribano, 24.

Escribano last June was found guilty of possession of a firearm when prohibited. The Washington County district attorney’s office said in the 2013 incident, Washington police responded to a report of shots fired behind a bar. Officers saw a car driving away from the parking lot at the bar. The vehicle ignored the officers’ signals to stop and drove around a police car and onto East Chestnut Street.

Officers conducted a traffic stop, and Escribano was identified as the rear seat passenger. Officers found a .38-special revolver uder the passenger seat. They also found five spent .38-caliber shell casings and one live .38-caliber round in an alley a short distance from the bar. No injuries were reported, authorities said.

Keith Rosario, 25, Escribano’s co-defendant, last year pleaded guilty to a drug charge and is serving 2½ to five years at the State Correctional Institution in Mercer.
