A Washington man is in custody on accusations he drove over a woman’s leg while he was stealing her car Saturday at a convenience store in Canton Township.

Tyler Wayne Smith, 22, of 165 Bench Ave., is being held in Washington County jail on charges stemming from robbery about 11:30 a.m. at a Circle K store, court records show.

The victim, Janelle Ann Henderson, 38, told state police she left her car’s engine running when she parked it at the store at 860 Henderson Ave.

Smith was leaving the store as she entered it, and he was then accused of getting into her car.

She confronted Smith and was knocked to the ground by her car’s door after Smith put the vehicle in reverse and started to back up. That’s when the vehicle traveled over her leg, police stated in the affidavit.

It was not immediately known Monday where Smith was taken into custody.

Smith was charged with aggravated assault, robbery of a motor vehicle, theft, reckless endangerment and simple assault.

He was sent to Washington County jail on $25,000 bond set by District Judge Mark Wilson.
