GLENSHAW (AP) – A man police were searching for after he was suspected of setting his house on fire after a domestic dispute in a Pittsburgh suburb has shot himself.

State police say they were searching for 46-year-old William John James after his wife reported being assaulted and that their house was on fire in Shaler Township about 5:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities quickly put out the fire and began searching for James, who was located by troopers in Mercer County, about 60 miles northwest of the couple’s home.

Police say they chased James’ vehicle and flattened its tires with spiked sticks only to find that James had shot himself by the time they reached the vehicle.

The fire and James’ death remain under investigation. But police say it appears he shot himself after the police pursuit.
