WASHINGTON – A fugitive wanted on felony firearm charges in New York City was arrested on drug charges after allegedly providing a false name to police.

Nelson “Edgar” Rodriguez, 21, of New York, was arrested by Washington police Thursday during a traffic stop in which he was a passenger in the Subway parking lot on Jefferson Avenue.

Rodriguez was found with 14 oxymorphine pills, three Xanax pills, two unidentified prescription pills and nearly $2,000 in cash, according to court documents.

He was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger on charges of providing false identification to police and possession of drugs with intent to sell. He was placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond, but the bond was later upgraded to a detainer as he awaits extradition.

Washington police Chief Robert Wilson said Rodriguez was wanted in New York for selling firearms, and authorities there have 30 days to pick him up.
