Robber hits Gabler’s Drug store

CARMICHAELS – A man claiming he had a gun walked into Gabler’s Drug store in Carmichaels on Saturday afternoon and robbed the pharmacy of several prescriptions of Oxycodone.
State trooper William Brown said the man was wearing a large flannel jacket with the hood wrapped around his face when he walked into the drug store at 106 S. Market St. shortly after 3 p.m. and went straight to the pharmacy counter.
Brown said the man told a pharmacy technician he needed to fill a prescription and slid a note to the woman. The note stated he had a gun in his pocket and demanded she give him multiple prescriptions of Oxycodone.
The technician took the note to the pharmacist, who Brown said sensed there was a problem and pushed the store’s “panic button” to contact police.
“At that point, she already knew something was up,” Brown said of the pharmacist’s reaction.
The pharmacist pulled three prescription bottles and gave it to the man, who immediately left, Brown said. She then called 911. Cumberland Township police, who were on patrol nearby, arrived about a minute later, Brown said. Cumberland police and state troopers searched for the man, but could not locate him.
Brown said the robber is described as a white man in his mid-20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and with brown hair and a beard. He was wearing a blue, black and white flannel jacket.
“They did not get a good look at him,” Brown said.
He said the man never showed a weapon but held his hand in his pocket.
