A Washington man faces several charges after he allegedly fought with one Washington police officer and tried to punch a second as they were questioning him after his 4-year-old son was found outside without a coat, socks or shoes Saturday night.

James Grusofski, 33, of 1355 Allison Ave., allegedly left the 4-year-old and his two other sons, ages 9 months and 7, inside his vehicle while he went inside a friend’s home in the 300 block of East Maiden Street to watch a football game. Police said after watching the game for an unknown amount of time, Grusofski drove home, where he discovered the 4-year-old was no longer in the vehicle.

The boy was found in 30-degree temperatures in the 300 block of East Maiden about 9:45 p.m. Police were called by a witness who could hear the boy yelling.

Officers were unable to locate the boy’s parents in the area, so he was taken to the police station. Washington County Children and Youth Services was notified. About an hour after the boy was found, he was reported missing by his mother and grandmother. They came to the station, and police learned about the father going to the friend’s home and allegedly leaving the children in the vehicle.

Grusofski came to the police station, where he reportedly admitted he was drinking. When police told him he was going to be charged, Grusofski allegedly tried to punch Lt. Robert Lemons and fought with Sgt. Chris Luppino after telling them he was not going to be arrested. Police used a Taser to take him into custody.

Grusofski was taken to Washington Hospital for evaluation. He will be charged later with endangering the welfare of children, aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
