Suspect sought in store robbery

CARMICHAELS – Carmichaels Beer Distributor in Cumberland Township was robbed Thursday night, and investigators are now searching for the man they think committed the heist.
Cumberland Township police said a man wearing a reflective jacket pulled over his head went into the store at 558 S. Eighty Eight Road shortly before 7 p.m. and went straight to the counter.
The robber took about $200 from a black money tray under the counter and pushed a clerk away when she confronted him, court documents indicate. He then jumped over the counter and ran from the store, but dropped some of the bundles of money.
The clerk told police she believed the man was Clarence Lancaster, prompting authorities to go to his address at 63 Route 21 Mobile Home Park. They found Lancaster’s girlfriend at the home and were permitted to search the residence, court records indicate.
While there, they found a reflective jacket and black tennis shoes that the clerk described the robber as wearing. The patterns on the shoes also matched footprints found at the robbery scene, police said.
Police said Lancaster, 28, was not home when they searched for evidence, but they were able to locate him later. He ran from police and officers are now searching for him.
They filed charges of robbery, theft, receiving stolen property and disorderly conduct against Lancaster at District Judge Glenn Bates’ office Friday morning. Anyone with information on Lancaster’s location is asked to call police at 724-966-8296.
