A Charleroi woman was arrested Sunday on drug charges by Charleroi Regional police after she allegedly sold heroin to a confidential informant.

Kara Rae Prentice, 25, was arrested after a confidential informant told police they could purchase heroin from her. The informant tipped off police Sunday afternoon. The informant was given money by police and the currency was photographed before being taken to the parking lot of a business where the buy was scheduled to take place, according to court records. The informant then reportedly got a call from Prentice, who wanted to change the location of the transaction to a parking lot on Lincoln Avenue in North Charleroi.

Police said the informant went to the new location and got into Prentice’s vehicle, made the deal and then signaled to the officer working surveillance that the transaction was complete. Police pulled into the lot and took Prentice into custody. The informant had three bundles containing 30 stamp bags of suspected heroin police said was obtained during the transaction. The substance field-tested as being heroin.

Prentice was taken to the police station, where she was searched by a female North Belle Vernon officer who found the cash that was documented for the transaction hidden in Prentice’s bra, police said.

Prentice was arraigned before District Judge Curtis Thompson on charges of criminal use of a communications facility, possession and possession with intent to deliver heroin, and possession of paraphernalia. She was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 4 before District Judge Larry Hopkins.
