Fire destroys home in Aleppo Township

No one was injured Sunday afternoon when fire destroyed an Aleppo Township home.
New Freeport Volunteer Fire Company was called to the single-story, wood frame home of Teresa Jones at 142 Kuhn Hill Road at 2:18 p.m., according to county emergency dispatch.
“It was fully involved when we got there,” New Freeport fire Chief Alan Shipman said.
He said he didn’t think anyone was home when the fire started.
Firefighters had no trouble getting to the scene, despite heavy snow that fell Saturday, Shipman said.
“Aleppo Township had done a good job” of clearing the roads following the storm, Shipman said. “They did an awesome job.”
The cause of the fire remains undetermined. Shipman said he believes Jones was staying with relatives nearby and the American Red Cross was called to provide the family with assistance. Fire companies from Center, Wayne and Richhill townships and Cameron, W.Va., were called to assist.
Jones had other difficulties last week. She was convicted Thursday by a Greene County Court jury of mailing two letters containing Suboxone, a controlled substance, to her son at Greene County jail. Jones is free on bond while she awaits to be sentenced on the case at a later date.
