The state Department of Transportation will replace two deteriorating bridges along Route 88 in 2017.

One of the bridges is over Pigeon Creek near Brownsville Road in Union Township, and the other is at the south end of Charleroi, over Maple Creek and just across the Speers line, said Dan Galvin, a consultant for the projects.

The work will not require detours because single lanes will be maintained during construction, or vehicles will be directed across temporary bridges, Galvin said.

Public meetings have been scheduled next month on the projects.

The first meeting will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the Charleroi Borough Building, 338 Fallowfield Ave. The second meeting is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Finleyville Borough Building, 3515 Washington Ave.
