This tree at 692 E. Beat St. in East Washington was uprooted Friday after a pickup truck crashed into it.

A New York man temporarily living in the Washington area for work escaped injury early Friday when his pickup truck went off the road in the 600 block of East Beau Street in East Washington, traveling more than 200 feet through three yards and crashing into a fence and tree before coming to a stop.

Jameson Kilis, 24, of East Northport, told Officer Eric Holt he just finished a shift at work and was returning to his apartment when he fell asleep at the wheel of his Ford Ranger.

Holt said the crash happened at 5:52 a.m. Kilis’ truck went over the curb, hitting a fence at 694 E. Beau and a tree at 692 E. Beau before coming to a stop in the yard at 684 E. Beau. The officer said the truck traveled 225 feet from where it jumped the curb to where it came to a stop.

Kilis will be cited with careless driving and having expired inspection and registration.
