Herman Healy of Canonsburg promises to play as an impromptu warm-up act for the Poolside Concert Series during the craft show every Wednesday.

CANONSBURG – It could be the start of a new summer tradition.

Every Wednesday in July from 4 p.m. to dusk, the space outside Town Park pool will play host to craft vendors and entertainers as Canonsburg Councilman John Severine tries to draw more attention to the park.

“We’re already going to be having bands play here every Wednesday right alongside the pool starting at 6:30, so why not add to that? It will hopefully bring more people through the borough,” Severine said as vendors selling chimes, denim clothes, salsas and pet treats set up for a test run last Wednesday.

Accordion player Herman Healy jammed from the American songbook as splashes of water and kids’ laughter echoed nearby in the pool.

“I’ll be here every Wednesday through next month – just trying to bring some atmosphere and some smiles to those who are shopping here,” Healy said.

Severine said more than a dozen vendors signed on and he’s accepting more registrations for crafters to set up inside the park. The vendors would be excluded, according a recently amended ordinance passed by council, from paying the $150 fee for outside vendors who set up shop in the borough.
