Lawyer: Ex-city manager accused of theft wants no trial
JOHNSTOWN (AP) – The attorney for the former manager of a western Pennsylvania city says his client hopes to avoid a trial on charges that he stole or mishandled more than $14,000 in city money.
Former Johnstown city manager Carlos Gunby was charged last month in Cambria County with failure to make required deposits, theft and writing bad checks.
The (Johnstown) Tribune-Democrat reports he waived his preliminary hearing and formal arraignment Tuesday.
Authorities say the money was stolen from April 2013 through November 2015. Gunby was finance director before he was appointed city manager in June 2014.
City solicitor David Andrews says the city just wants the money repaid and would agree to Gunby entering a pre-trial intervention program. Gunby repaid Johnstown more than $13,000 when he resigned in December.
