C-M stadium on track to open July 22
CANONSBURG – The track at Canon-McMillan School District’s stadium is slated to reopen July 22, pending any weather holdups, after initial plans for it to be repaired and open by August 2015 stalled.
The track closed in June 2015, and subsurface issues eventually were found, requiring milling and installation of new asphalt, according to Superintendent Michael Daniels.
The initial project was slated to cost $1.2 million for replacement of the track and the turf football field. A bid was awarded to Nagle Athletic Surfaces Inc. for $312,000 for the track, while ProGrass was awarded a contract for $914,000 for turf installation.
Problems with the track required further work, and the school board approved a change order in April adding $260,000 to the Nagle contract for the asphalt work. In the meantime, the high school track team had to have all of its meets at other schools.
Remaining work to be completed by the scheduled opening date includes surveying and line striping.
