Center Township man sentenced to probation for assault
WAYNESBURG – A Center Township man accused of fondling a 19-year-old woman with developmental disabilities was sentenced Tuesday to five years of probation.
Carl Mason Warnick, 35, of 554 Stone Hill Road, was not found to be a sexually violent predator, but he will still have to register as a sex offender for the next 25 years.
Greene County President Judge Farley Toothman also ordered Warnick to have no contact with the victim and her infant child during the length of the sentence.
Warnick pleaded no contest in December to charges of indecent assault, indecent assault without consent, harassment and disorderly conduct. As part of a plea agreement, Greene County District Attorney Marjorie Fox withdrew charges of aggravated indecent assault without consent and aggravated indecent assault by forcible compulsion. Fox said the victim and her family were “on board” with the plea agreement.
Police said the woman contacted them after Warnick inappropriately touched her Nov. 5, 2014, at her house. The woman told police Warnick threatened to kill her if she told anyone, according to court documents.
When police told Warnick he was under arrest for assaulting the woman, Warnick took a knife from his pocket and attempted to cut himself. The knife was taken from Warnick and he was arrested.
The victim, now 21, was present for the sentencing.
Warnick served two days in the county jail before being released on bond.
