The treasurer/secretary of Carmichaels Water Authority was sentenced last week to house arrest after being arrested three times in a year for driving under the influence of alcohol.

John Reed Beabout, 61, of Carmichaels, was ordered to five years of County Intermediate Punishment, with the first 90 days on house arrest with GPS and alcohol monitoring. He pleaded guilty in January to three separate DUI charges from incidents that happened Sept. 6, 2014, Jan. 1, 2015, and Aug. 16, 2015. His blood-alcohol content for the all three occurrences varied from 0.107 to 0.186. The legal limit to drive a vehicle in Pennsylvania is 0.08.

Greene County President Judge Farley Toothman’s July 13 sentencing of Beabout allowed him work and medical release privileges, as well furloughs to take his wife to and from work and to attend responsibilities with the water authority and for specific volunteer projects.

Beabout’s driver’s license will be suspended, according to the state Department of Transportation regulations, although it was not known for how long.

Toothman ordered Beabout to complete 28 hours of alcohol treatment and to remain compliant with treatment recommendations from his mental health doctor. He will also have to complete five sessions of the state’s Driving Under the Influence Improvement School and pay a $2,000 fine.

Beabout is eligible for a re-entry plan after three years of his sentence.
