Who’s the patient, her nurses?

They say too many cooks spoil the broth. Well, perhaps too many nurses spoil the patient.

This photo, most likely from the 1940s, entered the Observer-Reporter archives in 1992, when it was given to us by the Rev. John Leggett, then the minister of Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington.

At that time, Leggett said he found it while going through the papers of a deceased member, Ruth Wolfe of Taylorstown, who is standing at far right. He thought readers of the paper might be able to identify the rest of the women. The picture was published at some point, but that was 24 years ago, and we have no idea if any information resulted.

There’s a young woman at left holding a tray of medicine while others take the patient’s pulse, check her temperature, serve her food and hold hot-water bottles. Might they all have been members of the same club or organization?

We’re hoping some of our readers can identify some of the women in the photo or may know where or why it was taken so that information can be attached to it for posterity.

If you think you can help us, email Park Burroughs, retired executive editor, at pburroughs@observer-reporter, or call and leave a message for him along with your telephone number at 724-222-2200, extension 2400.

With a little assistance, we may be able to solve this puzzle and publish our findings next Monday.
