A lightning bolt struck a house in the 400 block of Thompson Avenue in Donora Monday afternoon, causing the home to catch fire, according to a Westmoreland County emergency dispatcher. The call came in around 4 p.m., authorities said, as the home sustained moderate to severe damage from the flames, but no one was reported injured.

The lightning and other severe weather from a microburst of thunderstorms in the region caused approximately 50 people to lose power in and around Donora and California, according to a First Energy spokesperson. High winds and heavy downpours caused downed trees and powerlines Monday afternoon.
