PT police administer Narcan, charge man
Peters Township police administered nalaxone, the opioid-overdose antidote sold under the brand name Narcan, to a McMurray man who was found unconcious in a vehicle parked in front of his home Saturday morning, according to reports.
Police said once the Narcan was administered, Joshua Troup, 31, of 105 Southview Road, regained conciousness and was taken to Canonsburg Hospital for further treatment. Troup later was transported to Washington County Jail.
Narcan has been used by Peters police for more than a year. When the anticdote is given intravenously, it can work within two minutes, and within five minutes if it is injected into a muscle. It works by blocking the effects of opioids.
Troup, police said, was under house arrest. He had been arrested in February on warrants after he allegedly sold heroin to informants in September and October 2014 in Peters Township.
Peters police said Troup had six stamp bags of heroin, three full and three empty, on Saturday. He is charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
