FBI renews efforts to arrest fugitive who escaped in 1971
PITTSBURGH (AP) – The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of a convicted murderer who escaped 45 years ago while attending his grandmother’s funeral in Pittsburgh.
Authorities say Leonard Rayne Moses had been serving a life term after he was convicted of throwing Molotov cocktails at a home during riots in Pittsburgh following the April 1968 killing of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
A woman in the house later died from burns she suffered in the attack, as well as subsequent pneumonia.
Moses escaped in June 1971 at the age of 18. He would currently be 63 years old.
The FBI on Wednesday posted Moses’ fugitive case on electronic billboards in Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida. He had been suspected of living in Detroit.
