A 16-year-old Canton Township boy died Sunday night after he shot himself in the head with a revolver.

State police said that Brandon Curry of East Sunset Drive was in a yard of a home on Euclid Avenue with about nine other teenagers when he shot himself.

Police said the teens had been hanging out, jumping on a trampoline. Police were called to the home about 6 p.m. Most of the teens saw him with the gun on Sunday as well as on other occasions. Some told police they thought he was just showing off. At least one of the teens told police that Curry was told to put the gun down.

Washington County Coroner Tim Warco ruled the cause of death a suicide.

Curry had just completed ninth grade at Trinity High School on Friday.

“Our teachers and students are still in shock,” district Superintendent Michael Lucas said in an email Tuesday. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Brandon’s family.”

The district sent an email to parents on Monday informing them of Curry’s death and telling them that grief counselors would be available at the school Tuesday or by calling a toll-free number.
