Carmichaels students receive scholarship awards
Emma Lowry and Christopher Ross were each awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Paul and Dolores Jazwa Lavins Scholarship Fund.
Each year, the fund awards two $5,000 scholarships, renewable each year for four years, to two Carmichaels seniors. This is the 17th year this scholarship has been given at Carmichaels.
David D’Antonio was the recipient of the Michael E. Holupka Jr. and Kathleen Marinoff Gift Fund, which awards a $1,000 scholarship each year for no longer than five years to a deserving Carmichaels senior. This fund has been an active part of Carmichaels’ graduation for the past 18 years.
Lowry is a daughter of Leanna Madich and C.J. Lowry of Nemacolin. She plans to attend Carlow University and major in nursing.
Ross is a son of Rachel Ross of Carmichaels. He plans to attend Gannon University and major in freshwater and marine biology.
D’Antonio is a son of Eugene and Margaret D’Antonio of Carmichaels. He plans to attend Penn State University and major in accounting.
The criteria for both scholarship selections include need, grades, co-curricular participation, contributions to the school and a positive attitude toward the need for a college education.
