Christiana unveils plan to eliminate property taxes
After confounding the General Assembly for years, Rep. Jim Christiana, R-Beaver/Washington, this week unveiled his plan to permanently eliminate property taxes in Pennsylvania.
House Bill 2145, which has been referred to the House Finance Committee, would abolish all property taxes that would take effect July 1, 2017.
Christiana said that will force the Legislature and governor to come up with a replacement mechanism.
A similar two-step approach was successful in eliminating Michigan’s property taxes in 2012.
