Firefighters worked more than two hours before a blaze that engulfed a house Sunday afternoon in Hopewell Township was under control.

A Washington County 911 supervisor said the fire was reported about 3 p.m. and fully engulfed a single-family dwelling on the 4500 block of Jefferson Avenue.

Numerous units from Washington County and nearby Brooke County, W.Va., battled the fire until 5:19 p.m. before it was reported to be under control.

The American Red Cross was assisting a man who’d been displaced by the fire, spokesman Kevin Brown said.

The man’s wife and two children were out of town Sunday.

Brown said the rest of the family members will receive Red Cross assistance when they return to town in a few days.

The 911 supervisor said no injuries were reported.
