Washington County Recorder of Deeds Debbie Bardella said Monday a Washington resident who received a solicitation brought to her attention that a mailing is seeking to charge residents $89 for a copy of a deed.

The mailing came from Local Records Office, 3915-903 Union Deposit Road, Harrisburg. It asks recipients to respond by July 18. The letter carries a disclaimer of sorts, noting that Local Records Office is not associated with any governmental agency. “You can obtain a copy of your deed or other record of your title from the county recorder in the county where your property is located,” the solicitation states.

A typical deed of four pages would cost $2 to photocopy at her office, Bardella said, adding, “I just wanted people to know this is going around.”
