Crash closes Route 21 for three hours
WAYNESBURG – Route 21 near Greene County Airport was closed for nearly three hours Tuesday afternoon after a four-vehicle crash involving a dump truck that seriously injured one driver.
A man driving a red sedan was traveling west on Route 21 just before 2 p.m. when he crossed the centerline and struck the eastbound dump truck, state police Sgt. Steven Dowlin said. The car then hit an eastbound pickup truck.
Debris from the crash struck a fourth vehicle, police said.
The driver of the car was seriously injured and had to be extricated from the vehicle by Waynesburg-Franklin firefighters, Dowlin said. A medical helicopter took the driver, whose name and condition were not released, to an area hospital.
Police said the other drivers did not suffer serious injuries.
The crash occurred about a quarter-mile east of Murtha Drive near the municipal line between Franklin and Jefferson townships. Police reopened the highway about 5 p.m.
