Lions name students of the month
WAYNESBURG – Waynesburg Central High School seniors Nicholas Fox and Taylor Phillips were selected by the high school faculty as Waynesburg Lions Club’s students of the month for February.
Fox, the son of Timothy and Mary Lee Fox of Waynesburg, has a 4.0 grade point average. He is president of the physics club, treasurer of the construction club and is a member of SADD and National Honor Society.
He was twice class secretary. Fox participates in varsity soccer and varsity baseball and is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
He has received the highest honors award, academic achievement award and the Challenge Program academic achievement award. He is a four-year letterman in soccer and a two-year letterman in baseball. He was a WPIAL Section 6-A all-section goalkeeper in 2015.
Fox is an usher at First Presbyterian Church of Waynesburg. He attends Crossroads Youth Ministry and participated in service and mission opportunities in the Dominican Republic, Owego, N.Y., Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Keansburg, N.J. He plans to attend college and major in mechanical engineering.
Phillips, the daughter of Brian and Melissa Phillips of Taylortown, has a 4.0 grade point average.
She is president of the creative writing club and is a member of the TV workshop club and yearbook staff. She does office work.
Phillips also has been a member of the library club, Spanish club and Leo Club. She received a Scholastic Writing Regional Gold Key Award in 10th grade.
Phillips volunteers in the summer at the Morgantown, W.Va. chapter of American Red Cross.
She said her plans are not set in stone, but she intends to obtain an undergraduate degree at West Liberty University and a master’s degree in counseling at California University of Pennsylvania.
